February
Where did January go! Can you all believe we are now into the second month of 2010. Our Year two children recently visited our local church St martins in Ruislip .

Year 6 have just had a Circus Skills company come in to show them all sorts of circus skills! So parents beware if your plates go missing at home, your children could well be practising their new found skills.
National Sing Up Day - Wednesday 24th February
For national Sing Up Day each year group learnt a song and performed it to the school during a special 'Spread a Little Singing', assembly. The children taught their song to the rest of the school and everyone year group joined in. It was a really great afternoon for the children and staff - there was even some dancing as everyone in Key Stage two sang strictly some singing and learnt the Cha Cha!

Multicultural Week February 8th - 11th
What a fantastic week at BWI. All the classes learnt about different cultures and countries and participated in different crafts associated with their countries of choice. We held a Multicultural evening and all of the local community were invited to attend. Children who attend the Sole Dance club at the school performed a dance to the theme music of Slumdog Millionaire. Children in Year 6 sang a weather song in French, and a steel band played inbetween the childrens performances. We had lots of positive feedback from parents and other visitors to the school and we would like to thank everyone who came, to make this evening such a big success.

Please browse our individual year group pages for further details of this exciting whole school event.
January
On Thursday 21st January we held our first "Green Day." The children all enjoyed dressing up in their Eco-Friendly colours and little did we realise that there are so many shades of green!! We would like to extend a very big thank you to Mrs Stone and her Eco-warriors for organising the day and for all of the children who participated.

We are very proud to say that Bishop Winnington-Ingram stayed open on Wednesday 6th January and Thursday 7th January during the adverse weather conditions.

Christmas Visit
On Tuesday 15th December we had a very special visit. Can you believe it Father Christmas took time in his very busy schedule to visit the children in his helicopter.

What is that in the sky? Here he comes

He spoke to all the children who were just so excited!

Young Voices Concert at the O2
On Wednesday 2nd December the
The children have been working hard all term to learn the songs. They spent the afternoon rehearsing in the Arena, followed by a concert in the evening to family and friends. For many of the children it was their first visit to the O2. All the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the Parents were extremely proud of their little angels.
The Headteacher, Mrs Westbrook said “I am very proud that our school could be part of this momentous occasion, the atmosphere inside the arena was breathtaking.”
The children made these comments:
‘I was nervous but excited’ – Tara Rendell
‘I was nervous but it was sensational’ – Elizabeth Hornal
‘It was an amazing experience’ – Esme Porter
‘It was awesome but tiring’ – Jade Green
‘I think it was brilliant because we all participated’ – Alannah Coleman

The Big Tidy Up - Keep Britain Tidy
On Thursday 26th November the children at BWI took part in "The Big Tidy Up". Each class went out for half an hour to collect litter from in and around the school and also in the local area. We collected a total of 23 bags of litter! Some of the more unusual items found included an empty handbag and a wellington boot!

PGL 2009
After half term our Year 6 children returned from Marchants Hill where they had their annual residential journey. PGL provides activity holidays for school children and have many sites around the United Kingdom. These holidays give children the opportunity to participate in many activities that they would not usually have the chance to take part in. Below are some photographs of our Year 6 children having a wonderful time.

October
During the first week of October every year (5th October - 9th), the British Deaf Association (BDA) run a campaign throughout the United Kingdon to encourage the public to join in, enjoy themselves and learn about British Sign Language (BSL). BWI are delighted to be supporting the work of the BDA this week.
Last yeat we ran signing courses for parents and a number of pupils and staff also took part in Beginners Basic BSL training. We were fortunate to be taught by a parent at our school and we feel that this week would be a great opportunity to give back to the deaf community.
Each child has been asked to raise sponsorship money for the cause;
Key Stage 1 (Years 1-2) - Sponsored silence
Key Satge 2 (Years 3-6) - Sponsored signing
On Monday's assembly Mrs Phillips (one of our year 5 parents) showed the children how to sign 'Good Morning' and 'Good Afternoon' to each other. She also spoke about the importance of facing a deaf person when talking to them and not shouting!
On Wednesday's assembly Mrs Whalley (another parent) taught the children signs to our BWI song. Ask them to show you!
So don't fprget to bring in your sponsorship forms to help continue supporting this worthy cause.

September
Welcome back to a new school year at BWI. All of the children have settled well into their new classes and this year there has been a big change. In previous years all classes were named after the teacher's initials however this year and from here on in classes will be named after a topic that the children cover in that academic year. If you go onto the "Our Staff" page of this website you will see all of the new class names. Two of our Year groups are getting ready for their residential trips children in Year 4 and Year 6 will soon be off to two PGL activity centres and parents in these respective year groups will soon be getting lots more information on these very exciting trips.
European Day of Languages Celebration
At BWI
Friday 25 September 2009
”Bonjour tout le monde!”
European Day of Languages was celebrated at a dedicated assembly on Friday 25 September 2009 with children, members of staff and Governors.
This year children in Key Stage 2 have been working towards showcasing their French linguistic skills. This was done through song, dance, acting and storytelling.
Year 3 greeted us all in French – “bonjour/salut/bonsoir”
Year 4 sang a traditional French song, “Sur Le Pont d’Avignon” and performed a dance
Year 5 sang a traditional French song, “Frère Jacques”, as a round
Year 6 sang a modern song called “ The Washing Machine Song” and told the story of “Jacques et les haricots magiques” (Jack and the Beanstalk).
In our prayers we thanked God for all the different languages around the world and for the opportunity to learn French here at BWI.
A big thank you to all of the children in Key Stage 2 for all their hard work and dedication. You are all superstars!
And finally, an enormous thank-you to our Year 6 for taking on the challenge of acting and story-telling in French. We are so proud of you!
Merci et au revoir!
Mrs Braithwaite and Mrs Stothard
