Policies and Procedures

Admissions Policy

At the present time, we have a maximum of 60 children in each year group. Please see the 'Admissions' section on this website containing the governing Body's order of priority in determining admission, which is subject to annual review. Parents wishing to send their children to the school should register for a place by obtaining a form from the school office. If you would like a tour of the school with the headteacher, please phone to arrange a date. Please note that a place at BWI does not guarantee a place at Bishop Ramsey.

Appeals

Parents who are not offered a place for the child are entitled to appeal to an independent appeal committee. Parents wishing to appeal should contact the clerk to the Appeals Committee, care of the school.

Behaviour and Discipline

In the Christian community of BWI your child will be encouraged to play a positive and helpful role. Rules and regulations are kept to a minimum but are there for the health, well-being and safety of all. All parents are provided with a copy of the school's Discipline and Behaviour Policy. Discipline problems are dealt with in accordance with this policy and in a fair and constructive manner. Incidents are clearly documented and children are encouraged to play a part in the resolution of the conflict. Parents may be contacted over concerns, but the aim is to build self-esteem and confidence in children together with a sense of responsibility.

Charging for Educational Activities

The Governors are requested to declare a policy on charging for educational visits and activities which is as follows:

1. With the exception of 2 below, when certain activities take place in school session time, parents may be invited to make a contribution towards the cost of the activity but that pupils are not excluded from the activity because his/her parents cannot contribute.

2. When music tuition is being provided by the Hillingdon Music Service, parents will be charged.

3. When activities take place outside school session time, charges will continue to be levied where appropriate.

4. Parents are required to meet the cost of breakages and damages where this is a result of their child's behaviour. (Please see the Policy for Charging for School Activities and the Policy for the remission of Charges for School Activities.)

Child Protection

If the School is concerned about the welfare of a child it may refer the matter to the appropriate investigative authorities. We comply with the guidelines for CRB checks for staff and adults in the school.

Complaints Procedure

Raising concerns about your child or school issues - Governors wish to remind all parents that there is an established procedure for raising issues. If you have a concern about your child that you don't think has been noticed, the first thing to do is speak to your child's teacher. If after an agreed period of time, you are still worried, speak to one of our Assistant Headteachers: Mrs Blake or Mrs Voisey. Again, if after an agreed period of time you continue to have concerns, come and speak to Mrs Westbrook, either through the Headteachers’ surgery or by making an appointment. If you still have unresolved issues then you should make contact with the Chair of the Governing Body (Mr T Rollin) via the Clerk of Governors either through the school office or via the Governors’ email.governors@bwi.org.uk

Disability, Gender and Equality Scheme

Click on the following link to find information on our Disability, Gender and Equality Scheme.

Equal Opportunities and Special needs

These are central to our practice at BWI. During their time with us, some children may be identified as having special needs. Procedures are followed in line with the Code of Practice and outside agency help is sought wherever necessary. Different levels of need are supported in a variety of ways. The staff plan carefully for all children and also recognise the challenge presented by those who are more able.

Games Shop

At lunchtimes KS1 ad KS2 children have the chance to use school equipment by exchanging it for a pre-paid tag. The tag can be exchanged as often as the children wish throughout the lunchtime session.

Governors Maintenance Fund

Parents are invited to contribute to the Governors' Fund, which is required to finance 10% of the costs of maintenance of the external fabric of the building and our contribution to the London Diocesan Board for Schools.

Home School Agreement

We have this in place to define the respective roles of parents and school staff. We encourage parents to take an active part in school life.

Images Policy

Lunch Time

The children bring packed lunches. Playgrounds are supervised by a team of School Meals Supervisory Assistants. They are guided by the School's Behaviour Policy. Accidents and incidents are written up and more serious occurrences are reported to the headteacher. Please enquire about free school meals if you believe that you may qualify.

Personal Accident Insurance

In common with other schools, the Governing Body does not hold an insurance policy to cover personal accident to pupils.

Race Equality Policy

In accordance with the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, our policy outlines how we deal with racial discrimination and promote equality of opportunity and good race relations across all aspects of school life.

Reporting to Parents

In the Autumn Term, year group information is sent to parents. Formal consultation evenings are held in this term and in the Spring Term. A written report is provided for parents in the Summer Term, just prior to an exhibition afternoon when parents may visit the whole school whilst it is in operation. Children can share their work, show parents and family around the school and meet their next teacher.

Frequent school newsletters are sent to parents and daily bulletins are written on the school white boards. Governor newsletters and Parents' Association letters are also sent.

Reward System

We have a weekly assembly with our Mentions Book, where good work and behaviour is acknowledged and celebrated. We also operate a reward system for Class of the Week. In each class there will be a merit system where children earn individual points and group points.

Valuables

It is not practical for Health and Safety reasons and with possibility of damage or loss, for children to wear jewellery to school. This includes earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
