Some photos from the Year 5 trip to Walsingham

At the beginning of May, 43 children in Year 5 and 8 adults spent four glorious days in Walsingham on a residential trip designed to support and enhance the delivery of the RE and Geography curriculum as well as develop the spirituality of the children. The trip included visits to the various churches in the village – the Shrine church, the Russian Orthodox Church of St Seraphim, the Roman Catholic Church of The Annunciation and Walsingham Methodist church. The children also had the opportunity to meet a Franciscan monk and a nun from the Society of St Margaret who live and work in the community of Walsingham. They explored the ruins of the Abbey in the village learning about monastic life before the reign of Henry VIII brought an end to monasteries across the country.

Geography fieldwork involved investigating village life and gathering information relating to this such as the number and type of shops in Walsingham, carrying out traffic surveys, and looking at local industries. The children will use this data to compare and rural lifestyles with their own here in Ruislip, in the suburbs of the capital city.
